Dr. Nathan Ratchford
The Board selects a Chair who is one of the Member Representatives
representing Phelps Health or the Leonard Wood Institute, one of the
signatories of the Cooperative Research and Development Agreement
(CRADA). The role of Chairman is to guide the AENC governance process,
to facilitate meetings of the AENC Board, and to act as the official
spokesman for the AENC Board. For the 2022-2024 period, the Chairman
is Dr. Nathan Ratchford from Phelps Health. Dr. Ratchford graduated
from medical school at the University of Missouri- Columbia and completed
his residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology from St. John’s Mercy Medical
Center in Saint Louis, Missouri. He is currently a Senior Vice President
and the Chief Medical Officer at Phelps Health.
Dr. Peter Koulen
The Vice Chair: Selected from the Founding Member Universities as someone
with experience in Neurotrauma and a strong background in medicine. For
the 2022-2024 period, the Vice Chairman is Dr. Peter Koulen from the
University of Missouri-Kansas City (UMKC). Dr. Koulen earned his Ph.D.
from Johannes Gutenberg University and completed his postdoctoral
fellowship at Yale University. Dr. Koulen is a Professor of Ophthalmology
and Biomedical Sciences and the Felix and Carmen Sabates Missouri Endowed
Chair in Vision Research at the UMKC School of Medicine.
Dr. Bradley Ferguson
The Treasurer: Also selected from the Founding Member Universities as
someone with experience in Neurotrauma and other venues. For the 2022-2024
period, the Treasurer is Dr. Bradley Ferguson from Missouri University
School of Health Professionals. Dr. Ferguson earned his Ph.D. in
neuroscience from the University of Missouri and completed his
postdoctoral research fellowship at the University of Missouri School
of Medicine, Department of Radiology, Thompson Center for Autism &
Neurodevelopmental Disorders, & MU Cognitive Neuroscience Laboratory.
Matthew Doellman
The Executive Director of the AENC is hired by the Board to conduct all
business of the AENC and is someone with Experience in the Army, Research
and Executive Board management. For the 2022-2023 period the Executive Director
is Mr. Matthew Doellman. Doellman spent 13 years as a U.S. Army Officer on Active Duty.
His assignments included serving as a Trauma Nurse at Fort Riley, KS, Fort Sam Houston,
TX and with the 2nd Forward Surgical Team in Afghanistan; Clinical Nurse Officer in Charge
of the Emergency Department, Medical Company Commander and Executive Office at General
Leonard Wood Army Community Hospital, Fort Leonard Wood, MO; Clinical Nurse Officer in
Charge of the Emergency Department, Fort Carson, CO.
